What do I need to know about Cipro?

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you:

• kidney disease or
• epilepsy or seizures.

You cannot take Generic Cipro, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.

Cipro belongs to the category C classification FDA pregnancy. This means that it is unknown whether the drug can cause adverse effects on the fetus. Do not take Cipro if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment medication without consulting first with your doctor.

Cipro passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. If you are breast-feeding, do not take medication without consulting your doctor.

Generic Cipro is not recommended for use on persons under 18 years (except for use in the treatment effects of inhalation anthrax). The drug may interfere with a bone development apparatus.

How should I use this medicine?

Take Cipro exactly as prescribed doctor. To clarify the indications for use, contact your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water (200 ml). Drink several extra glasses of water to prevent a formation of crystals in the urine of Cipro.

Before each use suspension for oral use should be carefully stirred for about 15 seconds. Do not chew the microparticle suspension, swallow them whole.

Do not grind, crush or chew the tablets Generic Cipro. Swallow them whole. Their composition is specifically designed for the slow dissolution of the drug in the body.

Cipro can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. It is recommended to take medication twice a day after meals.

Do not take Cipro with dairy products (such as milk or yogurt) or calcium-enriched juice. Cipro can be used with products containing calcium. However, when the drug is used together with milk or calcium-enriched juice, the medicine can be weakened.

Take Cipro at regular intervals.

Store the medication at room temperature in a cool dry place.

What precautions should be observed?

Avoid direct sunlight. Generic Cipro can enhance the sensitivity of the skin and cause sunburn. If sunlight cannot be avoided, wear protective clothing and use other sunscreens. In case of severe sunburn, redness, itching, rash, or swelling due to sun exposure, you should seek medical advice.
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Cipro may cause dizziness. If you experience dizziness, avoid these activities.

What side effects from this medication?

If any of the following serious side effects, stop taking the drug and consult a doctor:

• allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue, or hives);
• convulsions;
• confusion or hallucinations;
• liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue);
• pain in muscles or joints;
• Skin rash;
• chest pain, an unpleasant sensation in the chest, shortness of breath, swelling of the legs or feet.

Continue taking this medication and tell your doctor if you have other, fewer serious doses of the drug:

• watery eyes;
• increased skin sensitivity to sunlight.

Cipro interact with other drugs?

Do not take antacids that contain calcium, magnesium or aluminum (e.g., Tums or Rolaids); remedy for gastric ulcer sucralfate (Carafate); any vitamins or supplements containing calcium, iron or zinc for a minimum of six hours before taking Cipro and during two hours after ingestion. Before you begin a course of treatment medication, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:

• didanosine (Videx, ddI);
• theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theolair, Slo-Phyllin, Slo-Bid, Elixophyllin);
• warfarin (Coumadin);
• Probenecid (Benemid);
• insulin or oral diabetes medication such as glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, Glynase), and others;
• means of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory therapy (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin, others), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox), ketoprofen (Orudis KT, Orudis, Oruvail), and others;
• phenytoin (Dilantin); or
• cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune).

If you are taking any of these drugs, you should not start receiving Generic Cipro or need to adjust the dosage and take the medicine under medical supervision.

Cipro can interact with other drugs not listed in this guide. When receiving other prescription drugs and medicines, OTC, including herbs, you should consult with your doctor.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
